Community Rescue Service Specialist Search and Rescue Teams carried out extensive search operations around Portrush whilst searching for missing 88-year-old Maureen Gilgan who had been missing since late on Wednesday night.
In excess of 100 CRS Search Technicians and other emergency services personnel alongside Police were involved in the operation.
Shortly before midnight on Thursday the Community Rescue Service found and recovered a body believed to be that of the missing person.
In a statement to Causeway Coast Community, a spokesperson from the Community Rescue Service said “Our search teams were tasked by police to this high-risk missing person at 10 am yesterday morning and just before midnight a body was located which was later confirmed to be that of the missing person.
“Our deepest sympathies go to the family and friends of the deceased at this difficult time.”
CRS has responded to 18 callouts in the first week of 2023 and 34 so far this month.
A PSNI spokesperson said “Police are no longer searching for missing person, Maureen Gilgan. Thank you to everyone for their assistance.”
