Age Concern Causeway extremely grateful to MLA Maurice Bradley and his office staff for considering them as beneficiaries of their Christmas hamper raffle

Age Concern Causeway have said that they are extremely grateful to MLA Maurice Bradley and his office staff for considering them as beneficiaries of their Christmas hamper raffle.

In a statement this morning chair of Age Concern Causeway William McCandless said “Their support is greatly appreciated. Adele, Nichola, Tanya and Maurice have done an excellent job in raising much needed funds for us and in promoting the charity.

“We are a locally based charity, not to be confused with the larger charities ” Age Concern ” or ” Age UK “. We rely upon our funding stream through applications for funding and the generosity of the public. Our primary focus over the past few years has been to deliver dementia support groups throughout the Borough in Ballycastle, Ballymoney, Coleraine, Garvagh, Limavady and Portrush.

“These groups provide a few hours respite to the carers and partners of their loved ones and we have recently expanded our service to include 1-2-1 support in their own homes for those unable to attend one of our groups.

“It is estimated that there are approx. 900K dementia sufferers throughout the UK ( 20K in N. Ireland ) and that number is expected to rise sharply in the coming years. The caveat with these numbers is, those are only people who have been diagnosed, the true number is much higher than this. Dementia is a ticking time bomb for our NHS and funding needs to be allocated by Government now to tackle this. There are an untold number of family members being left to cope with caring for their loved ones 24/7 throughout the UK without support or assistance.

“We celebrated our 45th anniversary this year and we wish to continue to serve our community for many years to come. We are planning to set up two new groups in the 1st Qtr of 2023 and increase our 1-2-1 also.

“If you feel you could assist our work by becoming a volunteer in our charity shop or assisting at one of our Dementia Support Groups, please contact our Mgr. Mandy Corr 02870357966.”
