The Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has said he hopes the upcoming ‘Big Jab Weekend’ will encourage more people to get their COVID-19 vaccination.
This Saturday and Sunday (August 21st and 22nd) Northern Ireland's mass vaccination centres will once again offer walk-in first doses for all adult age groups before they begin to wind-down their operations. With case numbers remaining high locally, it’s part of renewed efforts to protect as many people as possible from coronavirus.
Welcoming the initiative, Councillor Richard Holmes said: “The ‘Big Jab Weekend’ is a timely reminder to anyone who has not yet received their first vaccine.
“If you are eligible but haven’t received your jab yet, the right time is now.
“Vaccinations save lives, protect others, reduce pressure on the NHS and will help us all get back to the lives we led before.
“No appointment is needed, just turn up and get your jab at a time and location that suits you.
“As well as this, pop-up clinics continue to operate with one due to take place at the GAA Club in Cushendall on Saturday 28th August from 10am – 5pm, and at participating community pharmacies.
“If you haven’t found the time, or you’ve been putting it off until another day, please come forward as soon as you can. Over 2.3m people here have been doubly vaccinated so far which is a huge achievement and you can be a part of this success as well.”
The nearest mass vaccination centres for residents living in Causeway Coast and Glens are the Foyle Arena (2 Limavady Road, Londonderry BT47 6JY) or the Seven Towers Leisure Centre (Trostan Avenue, Ballymena BT43 7BL).
Others are located at:
- SSE Arena, Belfast
- Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast
- South Lake Leisure Centre, Craigavon
- Omagh Leisure Centre
- Lakeland Forum, Enniskillen
Ahead of the ‘Big Jab Weekend’, remember that anyone aged 16 and over can get their first vaccine dose at the ongoing series of localised walk-in clinics being held across Northern Ireland.
And those aged 16 and 17 will continue to be able to get the first jab of the Pfizer vaccine every day at the mass vaccination centres.
In addition, anyone aged 18 and over can also book a Moderna vaccine first dose appointment at participating community pharmacies.
