Bowling Green Shut Down Following Assault

Brookgreen Bowling Club situated on Brook Street in Coleraine which is publically owned has been shut down temporarily by Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council following an alleged assault on Wednesday, August 11.  

It is understood tensions have been escalating between the men's and women's branches over recent weeks who gets access to the green.

In a statement to Causeway Coast Community, A PSNI spokesperson said "Police are investigating a report of an assault in the Brook Street area of Coleraine on Wednesday, August 11.

"It was reported at 2.15pm that a woman had been assaulted by a man a short time before.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting reference 983 of 11/08/21."

Council has since issued a statement reminding all clubs of equality obligations under Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act and a review of the incident is underway.
