Coleraine Company Axis Bioservices Ltd Invests in Jobs and Innovation

Axis Bioservices Ltd, is currently recruiting 10 new staff and is implementing marketing, R&D and IT investments as part of its plans to grow into new markets.

Based in Coleraine, the company specialises in preclinical research, offering clients a range of therapeutic models in oncology, inflammation and respiratory diseases.

Working in partnership with Invest Northern Ireland, Axis is benefiting from a range of support to realise its growth plans. The company is undertaking trade development visits, upskilling its workforce as well as implementing job creation, marketing and research and development activities.

Commenting on the plans, Catherine Maguire, Business Director of Axis Bioservices, said: “Our aim is to establish Axis as a core provider of preclinical services to a wide range of customer including the Pharmaceutical industry, small Biotech companies and university research facilities.

“Invest NI support is helping us maximise the market opportunities we have identified and build a network of contacts within the Pharma and Biotech community.”

Dr Jenny Worthington, Co-Founder and Director of Science added: “With Invest NI’s help we are investing in product development and making key appointments which will enhance our technical capabilities, while market research, development visits and participating in trade events in the USA and Europe is enabling us to attract more customers and increase our knowledge in the preclinical sector.”


Axis Bioservices has appointed a Facility Manager and a Client Services Manager to help drive its development and plans to recruit 10 additional jobs, including Scientists and administrative positions.


Welcoming the company’s growth plans, Jeremy Fitch, Executive Director of Business & Sector Development, said: “Axis Bioservices Ltd is an exciting high growth business offering services which are currently unique in Northern Ireland.


“Invest NI’s ongoing advice and guidance combined with financial support is helping this business to scale quickly. This partnership approach is enabling Axis to increase employment and access skills, export and R&D support to drive the business forward.


“The Life and Health Sciences sector is a key driver for the local economy and Axis’ capabilities, particularly in anti-cancer therapeutics, will further strengthen Northern Ireland’s expertise in this innovative sector.”
