Sinn Féin councillor Cathal McLaughlin has hit out at comments made by unionist and loyalist parties regarding the opening of books of condolence for joint first minister Martin McGuinness.
Mr McLaughlin said:
“As a very good friend of Martin McGuinness, can I say how disgusted I was to hear the comments of the TUV and DUP on the opening of a book of condolence for our former joint first minister in the legacy councils of Causeway Coast and Glens Council.
“We have to realise that the comments concerning the book of condolence come from a councillor who had family members involved in the murders of Republicans in the North Antrim area and councillors who give “the freedom of the borough” to the likes of the UDR, who were involved in numerous sectarian murders throughout the north, the Glennane gang, and the Miami showband massacre to mention just a couple!
“Thankfully the majority of people in the north have moved on to better times due to the actions of Martin McGuinness, but the dinosaurs in the TUV and DUP still live in the past, hoping that future generations will not even notice that unionists and loyalists played a major role in the conflict here in the north by colluding with British security forces to murder Republicans!
The memory of Martin McGuinness will live on forever in North Antrim and indeed right across Ireland and the world, for the role he played as a revolutionary and peacemaker.”
Well said never let the dinosaurs who’s history only started in 1690 and stopped in 1972 onwards and upwards R I P MARTIN MC GUINNESS
