McAtamney’s Traditional Butchers announce acquisition of Hunters Butcher Shop Limavady

2 Mins read

McAtamney’s, who has made a name for itself as one of Northern Ireland’s leading butchers, has announced that it has acquired Hunters Butcher and Deli, located on Main Street, Limavady.

McAtamney’s will take up the reins on Monday 16th January and the plan is very much “business as usual”.

John Apperley from McAtamney’s commented,

“We were delighted to take up this opportunity to expand our shops and offering in Limavady. We plan to maintain the current staff and will continue to trade as normal with no interruption to business, expanding the current offering to include our own products and ranges. We wish Ian Hunter (Hunters Butchers) a very happy retirement.”

Ian Hunter added,

“The sale of my business was not a decision which I took lightly and I gave careful consideration to who I would sell to as I have invested many years in building a loyal customer base. It was important for me to have peace of mind that the new purchaser would be able to offer my regular customers the same quality of product and service that they have been accustomed to over the years. I am delighted that the buyer is McAtamney’s and I think the quality of their butchers shops speak for themselves.”

This will add to the nine McAtamney’s shops in Ballymena (beside Fairhill Shopping Centre), Ballymoney, Coleraine, Cookstown, Garvagh, Limavady, Kilrea, Magherafelt and Maghera.

Of course McAtamney’s Traditional Butchers are no strangers to Limavady with their Irish Green Street store, which was opened in 2006, establishing itself as a popular choice amongst local shoppers in the town and will be unaffected by this latest acquisition.

The future of McAtamney’s is very promising and the potential for business growth is excellent in light of its impressive performance since 2010 and success within new sectors such as McAtamney’s Gourmet Kitchen ready meal range. There are ambitious plans in place to open a further two stores in Northern Ireland over the next 18-24 months and increase the current staff of 100 to 150. The next store will open in early 2017 and will be located in Galgorm outside Ballymena.

McAtamney’s provides customers with quality, farm assured local produce, traditional values and excellence in customer care. The secret to McAtamney’s success is the quality of its produce as it supplies only hand-picked, prime, local, farm quality assured beef. All of McAtamney’s beef is purchased on the bone and matured in the traditional way to ensure tenderness and flavor.

The quality of McAtamney’s produce has been recognized through numerous accolades and awards including prestigious competitions such as the Traditional Fine Food & Butchery Awards, Great Taste Awards and Northern Ireland Butcher Shop of the Year.
