Portrush come out on top

BT Coleraine

Portrush 2

Ballycastle United 1

Portrush started off the brighter of the two teams with the strong wind on their back and forced the Ballycastle keeper into some routine saves from Tweed and Doherty.

The breakthrough came on 15 minutes when Johnny Stewart played in Kennedy who made no mistake, lifting it over the keeper and into the roof of the net.

Ballycastle then should have scored when their striker was well placed but Blair made a great clearance off the line. Portrush pushed forward for the rest of the half but the castle defence stood firm.

Ballycastle came flying out in the second half and controlled the first 15 minutes putting a lot of pressure on Portrush with Skeets in nets the busier of the two keepers.

Ballycastle got equalised when a corner was swung in and Carson got on the end of it.

Portrush now with their backs against the wall, knew they had to up their game and came back into it straight away when a mistake from the Ballycastle substitute let in Hamill who made no mistake when rounding the keeper and scoring into the empty net.

A good entertaining game from start to finish
