1 Mins read

As many as 550 jobs could be lost over the six Further Education Colleges in Northern Ireland if they are to cope with budget reductions by Stormont.

The colleges are having to cut their budgets by £12m and have said the only way to do this would be by cutting staff.

Colleges NI, the membership body for the colleges said they are looking to develop a voluntary redundancy scheme to run over 2015/16 and that they are still waiting for approval.

The proposed compensation paid for voluntary exit under scheme is one month’s gross salary for every full year of continuous service up to a maximum of 21 months.
