Campbell hits out at O2 price hike

East Londonderry MP Gregory Campell has used a Parliamentary motion to hit out at O2's decision to increase their mobile phone tariff by 11.7% from April 2022.

The DUP MP said, "The decision by O2 to hike their mobile phone tariff by nearly 12% is a slap in the face for customers. In the face of skyrocketing fuel, food and home heating costs they cannot afford increases like these.

There is no real justification for this price increase other than a decision by the company to link their prices to the retail price index and add an additional 3.9% on top. The company chooses this RPI figure above the lower consumer price index and it is customers who suffer.

Whilst a mobile phone bill will not be the biggest outlay faced by most households, it is increasingly a necessity for most people and is an additional financial burden each month. It is vital that the Government steps up and takes action in areas where it can assist households. The planned increase in National Insurance payments are just one such area where they can offer assistance to households who are facing this series of financial setbacks."
