Case of former Coleraine care home worker mentioned in court

The case of a woman charged with a number of alleged offences including four counts of common assault and three counts of ill-treating or neglecting a patient was mentioned at Coleraine Magistrates' Court sitting in Ballymena this afternoon.

Jeanilyn Aguilar (50) was arrested in the Coleraine area on 4th July.

The alleged offences occurred between April and June this year at a private care home in Coleraine.

None of the facts were opened in court and the case was adjourned to 10th October to allow time for the full file to be prepared.

Last month a Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) spokesperson said;  "In June 2022, in line with legislation, the management of a care home in Coleraine notified RQIA of incidents of alleged misconduct by a staff member.

"RQIA is satisfied that the management of this home acted appropriately to safeguard its residents, in liaison with the Northern HSC Trust and PSNI.  The safety and wellbeing of all those living in care homes is of paramount importance to RQIA, and we continue to monitor this home through our regulatory powers."
