The local golfing community could soon be able to enjoy a brand new driving range outside of Coleraine as planning officials at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council have recommended that planning permission be approved.
Back in 2020, we revealed plans for this development.
Coleraine Golf Centre would be built on land off Newmills Road close to Tullans Caravan park. The application consists of a single-storey support building and shelter for a 12 bay golf driving range, alteration to boundaries & landscape of an existing field to convert to driving range, and small practice putting green.
A report to Councillors notes that no negative feedback was received as a result of the consultation period and that other press articles about the proposal were reported to attract much support.
The planning committee will discuss the application on the 23rd February 2022.
UUP Councillor Darryl Wilson said "A driving range, and golf practice facility would be a welcome addition to Coleraine and the entire area. The Borough is regarded as the "home of golf" here in Northern Ireland due to our world class courses.
"This facility would enable people of all ages and abilities to sharpen their skills and could ultimately encourage more young people from the Coleraine area to get involved in sport.
"It is my hope that planning application is successful and that the project opens up as soon as possible."
