Council to extend Macmillan Move More Programme to 2024

Members of the Leisure and Development Committee last week approved to extend the Macmillan Move More Programme until the end of March 2024.

The Macmillan Move More Causeway Coast and Glens project was initiated in June 2019 as a partnership project between Macmillan Cancer Support and Council.

Move More aims to provide support which people living with cancer need to become and remain active and enjoy an improved quality of life.

Alderman Fielding paid tribute to the great ambassador that the Move More CoOrdinator was for Council.

He said "Council has a close working relationship with Macmillan Cancer Support through the Move More scheme, which encourages those living with cancer to realise the benefits of activity and exercise. Initiatives like this wouldn’t be possible without the support of the public, Co-ordinator Catherine Bell-Allen has to be commended for her enthusiasm, motivation and work she carries out in her role."

Councillors voted to accept the funding of £35,000 from the Public Health Agency and commit to a Council contribution of £40,506 to allow the programme to continue until March 2024.

The item of business is set to be ratified at full council next week.
