Councillor Aaron Callan pays tribute to passing of his colleague

Councillor Aaron Callan has paid tribute to the passing of his colleague, Alderman John Finlay.

In a social media post this morning Councillor Callan said "I am very sorry to learn about the passing of my colleague Alderman John Finlay this morning.

John was a loyal servant to the party, the people of Ballymoney and a hardworking Councillor. He will be greatly missed by all of us on Causeway Council. My thoughts and prayers go to his family at this very difficult time."

Two months ago the DUP veteran Ballymoney councillor revealed on social media that he had just months to live after doctors told him his cancer was untreatable.

At the time John Finlay said that he was planning to continue to fulfil his political duties for as long as possible.  In June on social media he said "As some of you will know, I haven’t been too well over recent months and therefore unable to serve my constituents in the way I would have wished.

"Today, I learned from consultants that my cancer is untreatable and I have only two to three months left.

"This is not the news I wanted to hear, but I want to continue to serve the people as best I can for as long as I can. So if you have any issues, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me."

On behalf of Causeway Coast Community, we pass on our condolences to his friends, family and DUP colleagues.
