The Police Ombudsman is currently investigating a public complaint of assault and unlawful arrest by police in relation to an incident which occurred on 10 February 2022.
The incident happened on the Castlenagree Road, Bushmills during a security alert. Police and ATO attended the area following the discovery of a number of suspected firearms.
A Police Ombudsman said "There has been engagement with the Public Prosecution Service about this complaint, however the criminal investigation is ongoing.
No police officer has been charged with an offence in relation to this incident at this time.
At the end of the criminal investigation a complete file of evidence will be submitted to the PPS.
As this is an ongoing investigation, no further information can be provided at this time."
Causeway Coast Community contacted the PSNI in relation to the employment status of the officers. As PSNI spokesperson said "As this is subject to an ongoing investigation by the Police Ombudsman it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time."
