2020 Architects win RICS award for Portrush Blacksmith’s Cottage

2020 architects, have won an award from the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors at their annual awards ceremony.

The Ballymoney based company won the award for Residential Project of the Year for their Blacksmith’s Cottage project in Portrush.

A summary of the submission, provided to us by the company reads as follows : “A 100 year old blacksmith’s forge, rescued and transformed with a modern sustainable and super insulated straw bale and timber frame extension nestled into its existing terrain, opening up to spectacular uninterrupted panoramic views from Scotland through to Donegal. Set in an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’ the building takes its queues in both form and materials from the agricultural heritage of its surroundings.”

The project was featured on Channel 4’s Grand Designs towards the end of last year.
