24 Firefighters Involved In Crane Rescue Operation

1 Mins read

Two youths aged 14 and 16 were rescued last night by firefighters in the Pates Lane area of Coleraine after becoming trapped on an 50ft crane.

Speaking to the BBC this morning NIFRS Group Commander Max Joyce said

“Our main concern was the youths at the top so we had to ensure that they were safe all the way through.”

He said firefighters managed to rescue the boys by placing them into the cage of the aerial platform, but he said he did not know why they were at the top of the crane.

“I would use this opportunity to appeal to young people not to be climbing up onto cranes,” Mr Joyce added.”

**Sources told Causeway Coast Community this morning that the youths climbed to the top to put up a flag.
