Chic Limited pleaded guilty to two charges and was given an Absolute Discharge, in both cases, at Ballymena Magistrates Court yesterday.
The company was ordered to pay Court Costs of £22.
On 26 March 2014, the Department issued an Article 12 Enforcement Notice to Chic Ltd, Garvagh Road, Kilrea, Co. Londonderry as samples taken from “The Big House”, Crankill Road, Ballymena were found to have exceeded the conditions of the Discharge Consent.
On 29 May 2014 a Water Quality Inspector, acting on behalf of the Northern Ireland Environment Agency visited “The Big House” as the Article 12 Enforcement Notice had expired on 21 May 2014. The inspector collected a statutory sample of the effluent discharging from the sewage treatment plant. The biochemical oxygen demand of the sample was 444 milligrams per litre which exceeded the 10 milligrams per litre consent limit; and a Suspended Solids level of 85 milligrams per litre which exceeded the 15 milligrams per litre consent limit.
