Bell welcomes new Air Passenger Statistics

1 Mins read

Enterprise, Trade and Investment Minister Jonathan Bell has welcomed the publication of a new series of official Northern Ireland Air Passenger Statistics.

Jonathan Bell said: “The latest Civil Aviation Authority statistics show an increase in Northern Ireland air passenger flows in 2015. There were 7.23 million air passengers flowing through Northern Ireland airports to September 2015. This represents a 4% increase on the year to September 2014 and is a clear indication that growth is returning to the Northern Ireland air travel market.

“Good air access is important to the performance and growth of the Northern Ireland economy. We need to have a clear understanding of the nature and volume of Northern Ireland air passenger flows if we are to maximise our air connectivity.”

The Minister continued: “My Department identified evidence gaps in terms of detailed information on the Northern Ireland air travel market and has been working with the Northern Ireland Statistics Research Agency to identify the evidence base to address these gaps. Today’s publication is the result of this work and is the first in a series of statistical publications which will help us to monitor and assess our air travel market. The information will be a useful resource to both Government and our private sector partners as we work together to identify Northern Ireland’s air connectivity to key business and inbound tourism markets.”
