Bellarena upgrade welcomed – Ó hOisín

1 Mins read

Sinn Féin MLA Cathal Ó hOisín has said that the new halting station and passing loop at Bellarena will help improve the times between Derry and Coleraine.

Speaking at the official opening of the new facilities at Bellerena Mr Ó hOisín said,

“I am delighted to see the latest phase of the improvements to the Derry Belfast line being completed and coming into effect.

“The Derry Belfast railway line is an important piece of infrastructure if we are to make the North West competitive in economic terms and this is why Sinn Féin, when we held the Department of Regional Development, lifted the moratorium on improvements on the line.

“It is now crucial that the upgrade of the rest of the line continues apace so that the railway can become a viable alternative for the many commuters that travel each day from Derry to Belfast.

“The new facilities will also enhance the experience of passengers embarking and disembarking at Bellarena in that there will be more protection against the elements and improved safety.”
