Yesterday evening around 8pm Coleraine Coastguard Rescue Team and Portrush ILB were tasked to the Causeway area, following a radio message to Belfast Coastguard that a kayak with two people on board had capsized east of Runkerry.
The Coleraine CG Team quickly located the casualties offshore and stood by with water and rope rescue equipment in case the casualties came ashore on the rocks.
The ILB arrived shortly afterwards and took two people on board, before handing them into the care of ambulance personnel at Portballintrae Harbour. A third kayaker (who had raised the alarm) paddled ashore unaided, while the ILB towed in the kayak which had capsized.
The incident was brought to a speedy conclusion.
