Celebrating National Apprenticeship week

Marking National Apprenticeship week, Claire Sugden MLA has spoken about the benefits of Apprenticeships offer to young people.

The East Londonderry MLA said:

“Apprenticeships are a fantastic way of upskilling and growing our workforce and increasing productivity.

For school leavers who do not want to go to University, apprenticeships provide an alternative pathway to employment.

In today’s job market, experience is often key to getting your foot on the employment ladder. Apprenticeships are opportunities to work closely with experienced staff in a range of fields, to learn on the job, and to gain the all-important experience that many employers want.

National Apprenticeship week is an opportunity to celebrate these benefits. I am pleased that Deloitte have announced that they are recruiting school leavers in Northern Ireland for their apprenticeship programme. I encourage young people to consider applying to this programme and to others like it.

National Apprenticeship week follows the announcement of investment for the NRC at Coleraine. Regional Colleges also have a key role to play in providing apprenticeships in a diverse range of vocational areas.

We have a very talented work force in Northern Ireland, and our young people have huge potential. I encourage them to look outside of formal education to find a pathway that suits them best.”
