Inspired by TV’s Great British Bake Off, Newtownards-based Downtown Radio and Cool FM’s ‘Cash for Kids’ charity is seizing the annual trend for all things cake and bake, in the hopes of “raising” money for a very good cause.
Cash For Kids’ ‘Big Bake Day’ sponsored by Nordmende, is asking for groups of bakers to join together across the county to make and sell all manner of cakes, pastries and sweet treats in a countrywide competition. The competition is inviting teams in four categories (family & friends, schools, workplace and community groups) to get involved.
Groups in each category must bake and sell as much as possible to family, friends, colleagues or complete strangers and make their donation before September 16th to secure one of four coveted places in a grand finale, happening two days later in Belfast’s Victoria Square Shopping Centre. The grand finale, which will be part of a live outside broadcast on Downtown Radio, will see the 4 teams let loose on the city to sell as much as possible, with one team taking home the title of Big Bake Day Champion and £2,000 worth of Nordmende electrical goods.
For individual bakers with a creative and competitive streak, Cash for Kids is offering an additional incentive. Hopeful Paul Hollywoods are invited to submit their own spin on a classic bakery recipe or one which is completely original to them along with their Big Bake Day donation. The most delicious, creative or inventive recipes will be judged by Jenny Bristow and five will be chosen for an exclusive bakery masterclass with her in her Nordmende kitchen at her home in Cullybackey.
