Sinn Féin councillor Brenda Chivers has welcomed a public talk in Limavady on dealing with depression.
Cllr. Chivers said “the talk entitled “Lets Talk About it, a conversation on Depression” will take place in the Roe Valley Arts and Cultural Centre and is a part of a series of discussions which will take place across the North.”
“The programme will be carried out by AWARE. Mental illness is a growing issue and depression affects 1 in 4 of the population at some stage in their lives. It is vital for people with depression and those close to them to know how the illness might affect them and how to take steps to overcome it.”
“If depression goes untreated it can lead to self harm or even worse, suicide. One significant contribution to tackling suicide and self-harm would be greater co-operation between the health services north and south. In particular the creation an all-Ireland Suicide Prevention Agency that would co-ordinate the work of all of those involved would bring immediate benefits.”
She added “The event will take place on Thursday 26th November 2015, Main Street, from 7.00pm to 9.00pm. I would encourage as many people as possible to attend as the information gained here could lead to saving the life of a loved one.”
