Claire Sugden MLA: A6 Dungiven to Londonderry announcement

1 Mins read

Claire Sudgen MLA said “I am delighted that the Minister will accept the outcomes of the Public Inquiry for the A6 Londonderry to Dungiven Dualling Scheme. This means that the scheme will now proceed, subject to funding.
I welcome priority for construction from Dungiven towards Londonderry, including the much needed bypass at Dungiven. The community in Dungiven have been waiting for over 10 years for this. It is the only town in Northern Ireland with an arterial route which does not have a bypass.

This has been more than just a traffic issue. I have spoken with many locals who are very concerned about the impact of poor air quality, caused by traffic in the town, on their health. The Department is aware of this issue. They have previously acknowledged that the best solution is a bypass, yet the wait for this has continued.

I am pleased that they have listened to my concerns and those of the residents in Dungiven and that there is potential for the completion of the bypass ahead of the whole scheme.
This was needed in 2005; it is needed more than ever now. I welcome the news that it will go ahead, but I urge the Executive to start the work without delay and deliver for the North West.”
