Community chaos following security alert – Duncan

1 Mins read

SDLP North Antrim Assembly candidate Connor Duncan has said a community in Ballymena has been severely disrupted following the discovery of a suspicious object near Cambridge House school.

Speaking from the scene where residents have been evacuated, Mr Duncan said:

“Once again people in our community have been forced from their homes as police and ATO attend a security alert in the Cambridge Avenue area. Local people, including families and elderly people have been evacuated as the alert continues.

“The proximity of this alert to a local school is extremely worrying. The safety and security of our children should be beyond question and those who would seek to jeopardise it are beneath contempt. A youth football tournament was taking place at the time and a further 60-70 young people have been evacuated from the area as a precaution.

“It’s a very cold night tonight and I want to pay tribute to this community for their patience and perseverance at a difficult time.”
