The Community House in the Dundarave area of Bushmills was searched today by PSNI for Firearms, Paramilitary Paraphernalia and Offensive Weapons under the Terrorism Act.
Commenting on the matter, a spokesperson for the Bushmills Residents and Environmental Forum, the group who operate the house said : “Very disappointed and shocked to receive a call from the PSNI to come down to the community house as they were looking to gain entry.”
“They had a warrant to search the premises under the Terrorism Act and proceeded to look for firearms, paramilitary paraphernalia and offensive weapons.”
“None of the above mentioned items were found. ”
“The community house is used by lots of different groups within Bushmills and we are saddened that the PSNI have decided to search us for such items, we are not sure what led to this search but we will be asking questions .”
“We apologise for any inconvenience this caused to the residents of Dundarave today and ask for your support.”
PSNI Chief Inspector Mark McClarence said: “Police carried out a planned search at premises in the Dundarave area of Bushmills today, Sunday, 10 April. A quantity of suspected counterfeit cigarettes were seized.
