Convicted Rapist returned to Prison

The convicted rapist who went on the run earlier this week after failing to return to HMP Magilliagn from Home Leave has been arrested and returned to prison.

29-year-old John Patrick Smyth has a number of convictions including rape, gross indecency with or towards a child and aggravated assault.

Smyth was re-arrested in the Antrim area on Wednesday night (16th September 2015).

Inspector Ian Armour said, “A male prisoner who was notified to police as being unlawfully at large was arrested in the Antrim area this morning and returned to HMP Magilligan.”
