Duncan welcomes £62million Wrightbus order

1 Mins read

SDLP North Antrim Assembly Candidate has welcomed an announcement that Wrightbus has confirmed a £62million order for 195 buses for London.

He said: “After a litany of bad news stories for North Antrim over the past few months, today’s announcement of such a large order is a much needed boost for manufacturing here.

“Wrightbus has benefited massively from the €113million earmarked for Northern Ireland by the European Regional Development Fund to invest in Research and Development. It is a clear demonstration of the value of EU membership in keeping our manufacturing industries competitive and enabling them to continue to land large contracts from around the world. EU funds have also had a significant contribution in allowing us to modernise our own fleet of buses in Northern Ireland offering more contracts to Wrightbus and improving services for people across Northern Ireland.

“Wrightbus employees and the entire Ballymena community will be very happy with this development that secures 300 jobs and has injected some positivity into our manufacturing industry.”
