Portrush Golfing Star Graeme McDowell has welcomed the news of planning permission being granted for renovations at Royal Portrush Golf Club in their bid to hold the Open Championship in 2019.

Two new holes will be created at Royal Portrush as part of the plans to make way for corporate hospitality marquees and spectator villages.

Royal Portrush was confirmed as an Open venue last year but the possibility of holding the Open in 2019 is subject to infrastructure work being completed and approved.
