Important to highlight benefits of volunteering – Archibald

1 Mins read

Sinn Féin Assembly candidate for East Derry, Caoimhe Archibald has said it is important to highlight the contribution and benefits of volunteering.

Speaking after hosting a meeting between Causeway Volunteer Centre and Martina Anderson MEP on Friday afternoon, Dr Archibald said, “The benefits of volunteering cannot be understated, both economically and socially. Last year Causeway Volunteer Centre placed over 1000 volunteers with organisations, in financial terms this is worth £2.9 million to the local economy.

“Causeway Volunteer Centre deliver a very important service placing volunteers with organisations and groups, then also providing support to both the volunteers and the organisations to ensure the volunteer experience is an effective and rewarding one.

“It is important also to highlight the wide range of volunteering opportunities in various sectors from sport to youth, from elderly to executive. Volunteering provides the individual volunteering with opportunities in terms of gaining experience and skills, and can also promote good mental health and benefit personal wellbeing.”

“Causeway Volunteer Centre and other similar organisations must be recognised for their significant contribution and supported financially.”
