1 Mins read

Two tourists were recused near The Giants Causeway last night in a major rescue operation. The alarm was raised as darkness fell.

An Italian visitor found himself trapped by a rising tide and was airlifted by the Royal Navy helicopter from Prestwick.

The rescue operation involved Portrush lifeboat crews, and coastguard members from Coleraine and Ballycastle.

A field near the Giants Causeway was used as a landing pad where the tourist was reunited with his French friend who was rescued by the Coastguard.

Neither men required medical treatment following the incident
