McCandless attends meeting regarding upcoming Cruise event in Portrush

1 Mins read

Councillor William McCandless has attended a meeting in relation to an upcoming cruising event in Portrush on Easter Sunday after being contacted by a number of people in the area.

In a statement, Councillor McCandless said : “After having been contacted concerning the cruising event in Portrush on Easter Sunday a meeting has been attended by myself, representatives of Portrush Commercial Traders, clergy, community activists and the PSNI.”

“The PSNI have been very responsive and I congratulate them on responding to enquiries from myself and the Portrush Community on facilitating the meeting. Whilst I am sure the organisers of the event wish this to be considered as a ‘charitable event’, unfortunately the incidence of anti-social behaviour over the past two years have been unwelcome and not in the best interests of tourism for Portrush and the safety of residents and visitors.”

“The North Coast area is the jewel in the crown for tourism and we want all to come and enjoy the many attractions we have in the area and not be deterred by traffic tail backs and enjoy a safe environment.”
