Ulster Unionist councillor William McCandless has welcomed news that work has begun on a multi-million sports centre at the Coleraine campus of Ulster University.
Councillor McCandless said: “’This is tremendous news not just for Ulster University but for Coleraine and the surrounding area. “A £5.1 million development of a modern sports centre comprising eight multi-sport indoor courts, a fitness studio and upgraded changing facilities is obviously great news for students attending Ulster University and who wish to participate in sport.
“I especially welcome the comments by Professor Deirdre Heenan, Provost of Ulster University’s Coleraine campus, who said that the new sports facility would ‘help to accommodate the high demand for student sport and create a fitness and wellbeing hub that can be accessed by the local community.’ “The existing sports facilities at the University are already well used by many local people, and these enhanced facilities can only promote and strengthen the strong bonds between the University and the town of Coleraine.
