The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain and thunderstorms over County Antrim and County Down later this evening.

A forecaster said “Thunderstorms are most likely to break out over high ground this afternoon, but there is potential for these to drift into low lying, urban areas. The torrential downpours will be slow moving and there could be more than 20 mm in an hour locally, with more than 40 mm in a few hours possible. Additionally, the thunderstorms will be accompanied by hail and frequent lightning strikes.”

The warning is in place until 9pm this evening.
