A proposal to rename the Sandleford bridge in Coleraine after Her Majesty The Queen came before Council’s corporate policy and resources committee tonight.

The motion was proposed at last month’s full council meeting by Councillor William McCandless.

Speaking at tonight’s meeting Councillor McCandless proposed that the motion be deferred as he was awaiting information from the Department for Regional Development.

Councillor George Duddy then informed the chamber that the motion could not be deferred, only postponed by Consent of the Committee.

Deputy Mayor Councillor Darryl Wilson, then proposed that the motion be postponed. This was seconded by Councillor Joan Baird.

Members from DUP, Sinn Fein and SDLP voted against postponing the motion while the UUP and TUV Voted in favour.

The proposal to postpone fell and the motion was withdrawn.
