Members of the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council Planning Committee yesterday approved an application for a new Lifeguard Unit to be built adjacent to the Promenade in West Strand Portrush.
The application proposes the erection of a Beach Lifeguard Unit (to be wholly used for purposes of beach lifeguard service) incorporating steps to promenade and alteration to promenade dwarf wall.
During the processing of the application, the handrails and frame of the building were amended from a steel type structure to timber which is a more sympathetic material in this coastal location.
Alderman Sharon McKillop proposed that the application was approved as recommended, this was seconded by Cllr Aaron Callan.
The application was approved by a vote of 10 for and 2 against.
