1 Mins read

The Northern Ireland Executive has officially recognised a pagan priest and his church for the first time.

The church, called The Order of the Golden River was founded in Glengormley in 2009 and is headed by a man called Patrick Carberry. The church was officially recognised by the General Register Office for Northern Ireland last month.

Mr Carberry, who gave up his career as a chef to become a full time Shaman describes himself as a traditional Celtic Shamanic Priest and claims that his real/spirit name is Nighthunter.

Mr Carberry said his religion did not require a building as they use can ancient stone circles and are involved closely with nature. However a supporter offered him use of a building in Derry/Londonderry.
