Parkhill welcomes Health Minister’s £30m cash injection to tackle Hospital Waiting Lists

1 Mins read

UKIP candidate for East Londonderry Steven Parkhill, has welcomed Health Minister Simon Hamilton’s money injection to tackle hospital waiting lists.

“I welcome the news that Simon Hamilton is pledging £30million to tackle the ongoing crisis involving waiting lists within our NHS.

I hope this money when invested can provide urgent remedies to reduce the hundreds of thousands of patients in pain stuck on lengthy waiting lists.

However this injection of £30million, is nothing more than a temporary fix. Recent waiting lists figures have been nothing short of staggering and with an ever ageing population, this problem will only continue to escalate in the future.

It is a continuing deteriorating circumstance that we have – supply is not meeting demand. This issue has been raised year after year, yet continues to get worse. It’s as if the Executive has no idea how to feasibly solve the problem.

Fundamental structural reform, investing heavily in front line services and recruiting more nurses, provides a long term solution to tackling waiting lists – It’s time for drastic action from the Executive!”
