Pay Rise for Health Staff welcomed by Local MLA

1 Mins read

Claire Sugden MLA has welcomed the 1% pay increase for Health Staff in Northern Ireland.

Miss Sugden said : “I welcome the announcement by the Health Minister that he will implement a 2016/17 pay award for health staff.

Both NHS and Doctors and Dentists Pay Review Bodies have recommended a 1% increase for Nurses, Doctors and Dentists. Up to now we have been out of sync with the rest of the UK. I am pleased that the Minister will accept these recommendations and give staff the pay increase that they deserve.

I have fully supported Nurses in their long fight for fair pay and the increases which they are entitled to. Their request for a 1% salary increase has repeatedly been ignored by the Government. For too long staff have gone without.

My constituency has a large acute hospital. I know that the health care staff work day and night to provide care. They deserve to be recognised for the round the clock service they provide. I pay tribute to their dedication.

I hope that this is a step towards greater recognition of the incredible work force that the health service in Northern Ireland has. Staff constantly work under immense pressure to provide exemplary care. If we are to become a world class health service the government must support our work force and bring them along on this journey.”
