Police and the Coastguard are coordinating a search of the shoreline near Portstewart after a car was discovered crashed at Strand Road early this morning (Sunday August 16).

Inspector Donna Bowden said: “No one was in the Toyota car when it was discovered by a member of the public shortly before 2am.
“The Coastguard, Bann River Rescue, a community search team, police and Portrush RNLI have been involved in the search operation, as has an Irish Coastguard helicopter from Sligo.

“Police at Coleraine would like to hear from anyone who saw the collision, or noticed a woman on foot in the Strand Road area in the early hours of this morning.”
Police can be contacted on the 101 non-emergency number.
