Police thank clubs and fans for ensuring match passed off peacefully

1 Mins read

The PSNI have thanked both the clubs and fans for their support in ensuring last night’s football match between Ballymena and Coleraine in Ballymena passed off largely peacefully.

A PSNI Spokesperson said: “There were a small number of individuals who seemed intent on ignoring police advice and pleas for common sense to prevail issued before the game, however local police officers were in place to deal swiftly and effectively with the would-be trouble makers. A total of five arrests were made for public order related offences and, where applicable, we will be seeking football banning orders.”

“As part of our follow-up we will also be reviewing any available CCTV.”

“Once again we would like to thank the majority of fans who attended and enjoyed the game with good cheer and sportsmanship.”
