Portstewart to host Irish Open next year

1 Mins read

The Irish Open is set to return to the North Coast next year as Portstewart Golf Club have been officially named as the hosts for the 2017 tournament from July 6th – 9th.

The tournament last came to the area four years ago when it was hosted at Royal Portrush Golf Club in 2012.

In June last year  Portstewart hosted the Ladies’ British Amateur Open as well as one of the two strokeplay qualifying rounds, alongside Royal Portrush, for last year’s British Amateur Championship.

Dubai Duty Free are the main Sponsors.

The news was welcomed by Alderman Norman Hillis, saying: “This is brilliant news for not only Portstewart but the entire North Coast. There will be many benefits for the area before the event and certainly long after. This helps make the North Coast a mecca for golfers and followers of golf and will doubtless benefit golf tourism immensely.”

Fans can ensure they get to see the stars of the European Tour at next year’s Dubai Duty Free Irish Open hosted by the Rory Foundation at Portstewart Golf Club via dubaidutyfreeirishopen.com, with tickets going on sale immediately
