Power Restoration efforts continue throughout the afternoon

1 Mins read

NIE Networks emergency crews have restored power to the majority of customers affected by Storm Gertrude. Around 1,800 homes and businesses remain without power, mainly in the North East of the country.

NIE Networks emergency crews are replacing broken poles, clearing trees and branches and replacing and reconnecting overhead powerlines as part of a widespread effort to restore power. Winds remain blustery and working conditions are difficult.

Julia Carson, NIE Networks Communications Manager reminded customers to contact NIE Networks if their power is disrupted. “We would like to remind customers that if they do lose electricity supplies they should report the fault online at nienetworks.co.uk or call our Customer Helpline on 03457 643 643. Put safety first and if you do see any trees down across powerlines or broken electricity poles, keep away and call NIE Networks immediately.

“The damage has been significant with lines brought down and poles broken by the high winds.  Some areas experienced gusts of up to 70mph.  We have been working since early morning and we’ll continue to respond to reports of damage and put customers back on supply as quickly and safely as possible.
