Radical Reforms needed to non-domestic rates – McKay

1 Mins read

Sinn Féin MLA Daithí McKay has said radical reforms are needed to make non-domestic rates fair and affordable.

Speaking as Sinn Féin submitted its response to DFP’s consultation on non-domestic rates, Mr McKay said;

“Rates are a major issue for businesses.

“With the rise of online shopping retailers are struggling to shoulder the rates burden.

“By reducing relief on vacant properties and introducing a tax on derelict land we can lighten the rates burden at the same time as speeding up development.

“DFP should also consider replacing the Small Business Relief Scheme with more targeted support for smaller businesses.”
