Retired Coleraine Principal awarded MBE for Services to Education

A recently retired Primary School principal from Coleraine has been named in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

Mr John Platt, who was Principal of Millburn Primary School for almost 14 years was awarded the MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) for Services to Education in Northern Ireland.

The Coleraine man’s teaching career began over 30 years ago at the Leaney Primary School in Ballymoney before coming back to his hometown to teach at Harpur’s Hill Primary. He also taught at schools in Ballymena and Broughshane before taking up his post at Millburn.
