SDLP North Antrim Representative Connor Duncan has said there is a deep sadness across Rasharkin following the death of two local people today.
He said: “Rasharkin is in mourning following the tragic death of two local people after an accident today. I understand that a local woman died following a car accident and that a man who attempted to provide assistance tragically suffered a heart attack. The sense of sadness is palpable across the area.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those who have lost their lives. This will be a very difficult time but I know that the community here will rally around them and provide all the support we can.
“These two people were well known throughout Rasharkin. It will take some time for us all to adjust to the loss of friends and neighbours.
“This is a particularly dangerous stretch of road and in the time ahead I’ll be working with Transport NI to see what we can do to make the area safer for local people. It’s important that we prevent a repeat of this tragedy in the future.”
