Sports Minister congratulates Frampton on momentous win

1 Mins read

Sports Minister Carál Ní Chuilín has congratulated Belfast boxer Carl Frampton on beating Scott Quigg tonight at the Manchester Arena.

Frampton defeated the Bury fighter with a split decision points victory over 12 rounds. The victory means that Frampton adds the World Boxing Association Super Bantamweight title belt to the International Boxing Federation title he held going into the bout.

Congratulating Frampton on his win, the Minister said: “Carl Frampton has done us all proud once again and continues to go from strength to strength. He remains unbeaten in his professional career, now 22 fights, and this was perhaps his greatest triumph yet.

“Scott Quigg was undefeated in 33 fights coming into tonight and had seen off some accomplished boxers. By beating him, Carl has made a strong statement that he is still improving and that he is truly world class.

“My warm congratulations go to Carl and his entire team. I know his family, friends and many supporters will savour this victory and we all now look forward to him taking on his next challenge.”
