Sugden delighted by sale of Shackleton Site

1 Mins read

East Londonderry MLA has said she is ‘delighted’ by the announcement that a sale has been agreed for the Shackleton Site in Ballykelly.

MLA Sugden said:  “I am delighted at today’s announcement of the sale of the Shackleton Site at Ballykelly. This is more good news following the granting of planning permission for the relocation of DARDs headquarters.

MJM Group have announced positive plans for the use of the site, and for the benefit of the local community. I have been lobbying on behalf of the community and voluntary sectors with regards to their needs within the development of Shackleton. I am pleased that the new owners will provide a refurbished community building and outdoor recreation facilities which the whole community can use.

The North West has suffered in recent years and for too long people have felt overlooked by the Government. Alongside NI Water and DARD’s headquarters, this whole site can be brought back into use and a new chapter written for Shackleton.

This is a good news story and one which I hope has support from all parties. There is the potential for huge benefits to the whole of the local area.

Progress on the development of the entire site is vital to ensure maximum benefits. I urge the Executive to maintain this momentum, to develop the site without delay and to deliver for the people of the North West.”
