Sugden welcomes announcement of £1.57m for Family Fund

1 Mins read

Claire Sugden MLA has welcomed the Health Minister’s announcement of £1.57m funding for the Family Fund.

The East Londonderry MLA said : “I welcome today’s announcement of £1.57m for the Family Fund.
They provide much needed practical support for families with disabled and seriously ill children.

I recently met with constituents who benefit from the practical support of the Family Fund. They have been rightfully concerned at the prospect of another loss of support for their families.

This is good news for these families and for the organisation. However, I am disappointed that it is not the first time they have faced uncertainly.

Last year applications were abruptly stalled amidst uncertainly about funding. Thankfully money was secured but only as far as March 2016. This left a question mark over their future beyond this.

I am pleased the Minister has found the money which enables the Family Fund to continue their work. This is a reminder that NI politics must get back to people. I look forward to hearing about the difference the Fund will continue to make to families in East Londonderry.”
